Jiocinema: JioCinema sets new IPL 2023 record during CSK vs RCB match


IPL 2023 season is being live streamed for free on JioCinema and the app has set a new viewership record. The viewership during the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match on JioCinema crossed 24 million (2.4 crore) concurrent viewers.
This is, so far, the highest viewership for any match in the current IPL 2023 season. JioCinema broke its previous record of 22 million (2.2 crore) viewers which was set on April 12. The new record was set in the last over of the second innings of the match when RCB needed 19 runs in 6 balls. Chennai Super Kings won the match by 8 runs.
Previously, the final match of the 2019 IPL season recorded the highest viewership on Disney Hotstar at 18.6 million prior to JioCinema’s entry into the segment.

IPL 2023 on JioCinema
JioCinema, which also streamed the FIFA World Cup, has improved the quality of the stream, offering the IPL 2023 stream in up to UHD resolution for all matches. People can watch IPL 2023 matches in multiple languages for commentary and different user-selectable camera angles. The number of viewers on JioCinema is likely to increase as the IPL moves towards the finals.
JioCinema may charge for content
JioCinema is streaming IPL matches for free this season as the streaming platform does not have a subscription model as of now. The streaming service will reportedly start charging a subscription fee following the conclusion of IPL 2023.

JioCinema is also attracting sponsors and advertisers. Jio-Cinema has tied up with 23 major sponsors.
According to Bloomberg, JioCinema is planning to add more than 100 films and TV series to the streaming platform. JioCinema’s media and content business president Jyoti Deshpande was cited as saying that the company is working on adding new titles before the end of IPL 2023 on the platform.
A variety of films and series in genres ranging from thrillers and romance to biopics will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Gujarati, among other languages.
